Joseph Anemene’s Academic Journey
Joseph Oseyi Anemene received his basic education at St. Bassil Primary School, Otokhimhin, and St. John Catholic School, Adava, Ugboha respectively from 1955 to 1963.
He enrolled for continue education program at The Institute of Continue Education Centre, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria from 1991 to 1993. He sat for his WEAC Examination in 1993 at Asoro Gramma School, Benin City , Edo State, Nigeria.
At the same time, he gained admission into the Institute of Journalism and Management Studies, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, and got an Ordinary Diploma in Mass-Communications. He also applied for admission in Nigeria Institute of Journalism, Lagos at the same time but the application was turned down.
In 1992, he sat and participated in part time Law Entrance Examination in University of Benin (UNIBEN). The examination was conducted and later canceled and re-scheduled. Because of his love for journalism, he did not consider it necessary to pursue the law program but
concentrated on his Mass-communication studies.
Before this time however, in 1990, he applied for a part time course at London International Institute of Journalism (LIIJ) UK.
He received all the required forms, but due to the pressure and attraction from his business, he did not fill the form. By the time he made up his mind to apply the law of opportunity cost, the forms were nowhere to be found.
Probably, the forms may have been swept away along with empty cartons in the shop. Procrastination consumed that golden opportunity.
This was the time he decided to do the course locally in Benin City at the Institute of Journalism and Management Studies.
In 1998, he applied for admission into the six months Orientation program at the International Institute of Journalism organized for working Journalists by AIT. The program was held at NUJ Secretariat, GRA, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. At the end of the program, he bagged another Ordinary Diploma in Mass-communications.
In 2012, he again proceeded to UNIBEN to apply for a part time first Degree program. Upon his realization that he will be away every weekend for a period of five years, he decided to pause and weigh the pros and cons – the advantage and the disadvantages.
To pursue and actualize his academic interest, he needed to abandon his obligation to his Congregation members who to a large extent benefit from his spiritual enlightenment and encouragement.
After weighing the options, he decided to drop his personal academic interest in favor of his commitment to his Christian brothers and sisters in the congregation. His choice for opting for the later was greatly rewarded by the Almighty God Jehovah.
Today, he is greatly endowed with Knowledge, understanding, insight and foresight – culminating in great wisdom; an asset that he would not have acquired inside the university environment.
Commendably today, he is a reference point to
many people, and has imparted favorably in the lives of many. Today, he has seven books to his credit as the author; one of which is titled: Who Will Save the Youths? – Rational Approach to Youth Restiveness.
This book received Edo state recognition; and was listed among the books recommended for secondary schools in the state. His books and his recent articles can be downloaded from this website.
You may ask: Why did he undergo this painstaking journey in search of education? It is because, from his primary school education, he knew the value of education but was not privileged at that time to pursue his academic interest. No sponsor, no mentor, but the hope was kept bright and lively.
According to Larry Boot Luce, “there are no hopeless situations except those who have grown hopeless about them”. Ben Carson added: “the doors of the world are open to those who read”. Added to that is Will Durant’s statement: “education is the progressive discovery of our ignorance”.
Above all, to put his talent into full use to benefit himself and mankind in general, education is the tool to actualize it.
